How many times have you walked into a room and been caught off guard, felt uncomfortable, or simply been afraid to be there? Don’t lie, I know you have. I just read a fascinating article from Always On about the art of schmoozing. The article is based on a recent book by Susan RoAne, and gives ten-tips to succeed in the type of environment we all find uncomfortable: the conference, trade show, business mixers, fundraisers, and networking parties.
What I find most interesting about the ten-tips is not the tips themselves (even though they are all useful), but rather the fact that many don’t follow half the tips listed. The tips range from advice on how to prepare for an event to how to approach the person standing alone (ugh, that is the worst part). To read all the tips – and many of you should do this – simply look at the article here.
My suggestion to anyone attending an event is to simply relax. Remember you’re probably not the only person there that’s nervous or uncomfortable. If all else fails, simply go to the bar and have a few drinks.
